Elder Justice and Pro Bono Coordinator, Reneé Carrico

We are eager to share some exciting changes to NVRDC’s Pro Bono Program intended to increase our number of volunteer attorneys and pro bono opportunities! Previous Pro Bono Coordinator, Alex Scott, will be shifting to more client representation and co-counseling with pro bono as she transfers the Pro Bono Coordinator responsibilities to a new staff member, Renée Carrico who will be serving as Pro Bono and Elder Justice Coordinator.

Renée will support valuable partnerships between firms and NVRDC and work to expand Pro Bono Program participation, growing NVRDC’s ability to support more survivors.

Renée  has over 15 years of international development experience.  As the Chief of Party of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Afghanistan, she supported the justice institutions to implement the Law on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, managed a legal aid grant that provided services to women, children and the indigent, and lead a variety information campaigns addressing issues such as children in conflict with the law to recruitment of women in the justice fields.  Also in Afghanistan, as the Section Leader of the Ministry of Justice Section at the JSSP, she provided capacity building, technical advice and direct assistance to the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court of Afghanistan. In both of these roles, she championed access to justice and professional representation for the most marginalized.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to shepherd the pro bono program, legal services project here, at home,” said Renée.

Additionally, as part of our expansion goals, we are launching NVRDC’s Associate Committee. This committee will offer opportunities for associates to learn leadership skills and offer networking opportunities for those interested in moving toward board membership within the public service and legal services community.

NVRDC’s Associate Committee will meet quarterly, starting Friday March 13, to support member-firms’ pro bono partnerships with NVRDC. The committee will schedule upcoming trainings, deliver feedback to strengthen NVRDC’s pro bono program, and support NVRDC’s board in sustainability efforts for the organization.

If you are a pro bono attorney interested in joining the Associate Committee, please email Renée at renee@nvrdc.org.
